Her Journey into HR
Can you tell us a bit about your background and what brought you into HR?
I actually started my career in recruitment, working at Adecco. During that time, I had the opportunity to meet a wide range of job seekers as well as hiring managers from a wide variety of companies.
It was fascinating to see the variety of values, leadership styles, and approaches to people management and how those differences often led to very different outcomes. That experience sparked my interest in HR more broadly, as I wanted to be more involved in shaping those environments and supporting both employees and organizations to reach their full potential.
Meet Kim: Beyond the Role
What’s a personal motto, guiding principle, or quote you live by?
"Het leven is een feestje, maar je moet zelf de slingers ophangen." The English translation is "Life is a party, but you have to hang the decorations yourself." It means that life can be joyful and fulfilling, but you’re responsible for making it that way. Happiness doesn’t just happen; you create it.
What’s the most important value you try to bring to your team every day?
The most important value I try to bring to the team is Care. By genuinely caring about the people I work with, their ideas, challenges, and perspectives, I can build stronger connections and create a positive environment. This sense of Care naturally inspires us to connect more deeply, Create together, Cultivate growth, and Celebrate our achievements as a team.
What’s the most memorable experience you’ve had at VA Imaging?
What stands out is the ongoing collaboration with our team. We work hard, support each other, and genuinely enjoy spending time together outside the office. One of my favorite traditions is our yearly trip to a dance music festival. It’s always a great reminder of how much fun we have as a team.
Kim's secrets for a Smooth Start
What is the most important piece of advice you would give to someone starting at our company?
The most important advice I’d give is "don’t try to learn everything in your first week.
It’s natural to want to absorb as much as possible and prove yourself quickly. But this can easily become overwhelming. Focus on observing, asking questions, and getting to know the team. That is how you build a strong, lasting foundation.
What are some tips you would give someone before they approach the first interview?
Before your first interview, reflect on what truly makes you happy at work. Knowing what drives your happiness helps you ask the right questions and see if the company can offer that. It’s not just about being the right fit for them, but also about finding the right fit for you. In the end, that alignment benefits both you and your employer.
