Why customize a machine vision lens?
We have a large portfolio of machine vision lenses on offer. Our portfolio consists of the standard lens options that are available, such as C-mount, M12-mount, F-mount and telecentric lenses. However sometimes in special circumstances using a custom machine vision lens could offer several advantages for your vision project. Listed below are a few reasons why it may be beneficial to customize your machine vision lenses:
- Lens for special cameras: Some machine vision cameras have non-standard specifications such as a different lens mount or different dimensions. For these special cameras, a standard machine vision lens does not offer a sufficient solution. We offer the possibility to produce a custom lens that perfectly aligns with your special camera.
- Rebranding: We offer many options of rebranding your machine vision lens, such as customized lenses with your own brand logo on the lens housing.
- Specific lens requirements: Sometimes you need a feature that is not by default available on our lenses, for example a fixed focus, fixed aperture or IR-cut filter glued on the lens. These are typical customization options that are available for most of our lens models. Other examples include a custom mount, custom part number or custom focal length.

Typical customization options for vision lenses
There are a number of different possibilities available when it comes to customizing a lens. One option is to customize a machine vision lens with a fixed focus. The minimum order quantity starts at only 100-200 pieces (depending on lens type). Some alternative options that we offer for custom lenses is a lens with a fixed focus or a lens with a fixed aperture. The same minimum order quantity of 100-200 pieces applies for these options (subject to the model/type of lens that you are enquiring about). When a IR-filter is required, there are a variety of lens filters available online that are suitable to use with your machine vision cameras. For one who does not want to mount the lens filter themselves, we can offer you a machine vision lens with a IR-filter glued to the lens. The minimum order quantity for the custom glued IR-filter is also 100-200 pieces (depending on lens type).
Another custom lens option is a vision lens with a suitable custom mount for your special camera. A variety of lens adapters for industrial cameras are available on our website. With these adapters, a F-mount lens or M12 lens could be used on a C-mount camera. We also have an adapter for CS-mount to M12 mount available. Some vision applications have minimum space available, in this case a lens with a custom lens mount offers a good solution to avoid the need of using an adapter. A custom lens mount is possible for a minimum of 100 lenses.
In addition, we offer option of customizing the specific lens part number. Changing the lens part number to your own custom part number is possible for low quantities of 50-100 pieces (depending on lens type). One last option is to customize the focal length for your C-mount lens to meet very unique or specific requirements, the minimum order value starts at 300 pieces. The Minimum Order Quantity of a custom focal length M12 mount lens is 5000 pieces. Our standard machine vision lenses are available in a range of focal lengths. However, it possible to offer a lens with the focal length that fits perfectly with your machine vision camera in the vision application.
Would you like to have a fully customized vision lens? A completely customized lens has a minimum order quantity of 500 pieces.
How much does a customized lens cost?
The price of a customized machine vision lens depends on the level of customization that is required and the volume that you require. For small customization options like a custom lens mount, fixed focus or a fixed aperture there is a one-time fee only of € 1.000-€ 5.000 (subject to lens type). The price per piece remains similar to the price of the standard lens.
Some other basic customizations, such as a custom part number, may be provided free of charge if you commit to a certain volume of orders. In other cases, the standard price of the customized vision lens could slightly increase to facilitate the changes. For instance, adding a glued IR filter to your lens only increases the standard price of the vision lens slightly. For more complex customization needs where specialized components or extensive engineering work is required, a one-time fee may be charged. For instance, a custom focal length includes € 50.000-€150.000 NRE costs (subject to lens type).

The minimum order quantity for a custom machine vision lens depends on the level of customization that is required to meet your specific needs. For some typical customizations of machine vision lenses, the Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ) is the following:

Recently we purchased a camera with lens, and LED lights. We are not experienced with machine vision but the installation worked out fine. After installation on our laboratory we were surprised again of the high quality of the photos and the versatility of this system. (options in Galaxy viewer and integration in Python. Recently we had an issue with the software and the customer support was able to give us the relevant information to fix it within one day. The next time we need a camera we will not be looking to other suppliers but contact GeT Cameras immediately.

For a new product development there was a lot of price pressure. We needed a cheap camera. I called them and Caspar was providing great support. He even advised a cheaper camera than I had in mind. I was just surprised by the inhouse knowledge of get cameras about machine vision. Never expected this from a webshop. The image an built quality of the camera is also great. The camera feels and operates the same as our Basler cameras.

In the beginning I was sceptic because of the low prices, but support by email was great. They advise a lens and provided additional technical information. Unfortunately they don't offer a loan service, but I decided to try it. I had the cameras in house within 2 weeks and connection was easy. The SDK looks like the SDK from Basler so I felt directly comfortable with it. The camera and lens was a perfect match and now I'm able to read small DMC codes on large products with just a single camera.
