My role
As a Sales Application Engineer at VA Imaging, I connect people and technology, working closely with Account Managers and customers to ensure solutions fit both technical needs and workflows. I’m also the go-to person for customer questions, helping them find the right solution and passing feedback to improve products.
Making Machine Vision Accessible
As a Sales Application Engineer, I help make complex technology easier to understand and use. Machine vision is powerful but can be intimidating, and I focus on guiding customers through their requirements to find the best solution. Whether it’s assisting with setup or answering questions, I aim to make the process simple and stress-free. The best part is seeing that “aha” moment when a customer understands the technology and feels confident using it—helping make the complex feel easy keeps me motivated every day.
What are your daily activities?
Each day is different. I begin by handling customer requests, then reviewing technical requirements, joining calls, and supporting the sales team. I also update documentation, learn about new products, and make sure both the team and customers have accurate, up-to-date information.

- I'm also supportive. It makes me genuinely happy when colleagues reach out to me to solve a problem, clarify something, or simply get a second opinion. Guiding and seeing things click for our customers is the most fulfilling part of what I do.
What are your daily activities?
Some days I’m in the lab analyzing performance, validating setups, or experimenting with our products and machine vision software. There’s a real satisfaction in fine-tuning configurations and seeing everything work together perfectly.
Other days are focused on customer inquiries, selecting the right machine vision setups, or troubleshooting issues. I often collaborate with the sales team to solve challenges or create tailored solutions for specific applications.
I also dedicate time to technical documentation, training, and workflow improvements, ensuring information is accessible and useful for both colleagues and customers.
What’s it like to work in the technical team?
The best part of our technical team is the open communication, shared expertise, and genuine collaboration. We’re constantly improving through hands-on experience and new projects. We take ownership of our tasks, which makes us confident. At the same time, we can rely on our team's support to tackle challenges, brainstorm solutions, and help one another.
What skills or qualities are essential for success in the technical team?
Understanding technical concepts is essential, along with strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. A proactive mindset and genuine curiosity about the machine vision industry are invaluable. Most importantly, a customer-first attitude ensures we build a team that our customers can trust and rely on.
