Industrial Machine vision LED spot
LED spots are industrial LED lights for illuminating products in machine vision applications like surface defects on metal parts, character inspection on printed material, inspection of PCB components and positioning and recognition of large field objects with a computer vision system. Our LED spot come supplied with user interchangeable lenses. This means that the light setup can be changed interactively to achieve the best illumination for your project. When to use LED spots in your machine vision application?
LED spots are the most commonly used lights in machine vision applications. They are very versatile. You can use them in combination with our industrial cameras in computer vision applications where you are inspecting:
- Camera setups with a larger field of view
- Objects that are flat. In case an object is reflective, you need to adjust the angle of the LED spot that there is no direct reflection into the camera image
- Objects that are not flat and not reflective. These diffuse objects can always be illuminated with LED spots
In case an object is not flat and reflective, we strongly recommend using a dome light for illuminating your product.
How to use LED spots for illumination
LED spots are commonly used in pairs of at least 2 pieces, but for smaller area's 1 piece can be sufficient. If the horizontal opening angle of your camera + lens setup is larger than 20 degree, we strongly recommend to use at least 2 of these lights to create a more uniform light distribution. For larger areas 4 or even more LED spots can be used. Our VA-SL-90x80-W LED spot has a special user changeable optical lenses, which makes it easy to test different illumination setups.
Different light opening angles
The light has interchangeable lens plates to change the opening angle of the light. It’s pre-mounted with a 90 degree opening angle lens plate. Is has also included a 60 and 30mm lens plate. You can change the lens plate by removing the 4 screws in the front and then the additional screws of the lens plate. This way, you can always find the right opening angle for your application.
How to power the LED spot
We recommend using the power supplies as indicated in the datasheet to control the brightness of the LED spot. Additionally, these power supplies give you the option to trigger the LED spot. Triggering the LED spot will increase the lifespan of the LED spot. You can check out the analog recommended power supplies for LED spots here and the digital controlled power supplies for LED spots here. Our LED spots do work with standard 24V power supplies, however fluctuations in voltage of your own power supply may result in variable light intensity. Our power supplies are validated with our LED spots to have a stable light intensity output. Strobing the LED spot on 48V will increase the light output by 2.5 times! For this, a strobe controller needs to be used.

Production and quality control of LED spots
Our LED spots are produced with a strict process of quality control, to ensure their reliability and consistency. Upon receiving a new batch of LEDs, the quality department completes a comprehensive check to test whether the wavelength falls within the specified tolerances. Approved LEDs are stored in a climate chamber, ready for use in production. The next stage of LED spot production is automated and involves placing the LEDs on a PCB that fits the LED spot, which is then followed by an inspection and soldering. Moving along the production line, the LED boards are assembled into the mechanical housing of the LED spot. Post-assembly, the LED spot undergoes testing to ensure that it performs according to its specification. This critical phase ensures that each LED spot unit meets our uncompromising quality standards.
The production process of the LED spot may also include the creation of a diffuser or polarizer. The diffuser is cut automatically, and every batch of diffuser plates undergoes transparency testing before they are cut into the correct shape. The final step involves a comprehensive quality check, where the intensity, voltage, and current of each LED spot are meticulously measured. This step guarantees that all machine vision lights that leave our facility meet the required specifications. To further ensure the long-term consistency of our LED spot, we have established a room dedicated to light-source age testing.
During the R&D phase of a new LED spot, it will be continuously on for 1 week, while the temperature is monitored. For every new production run, each LED spot will be continuously powered for 12 hours, ensuring that the quality and output of our machine vision lights remain uniform over time.

Recently we purchased a camera with lens, and LED lights. We are not experienced with machine vision but the installation worked out fine. After installation on our laboratory we were surprised again of the high quality of the photos and the versatility of this system. (options in Galaxy viewer and integration in Python. Recently we had an issue with the software and the customer support was able to give us the relevant information to fix it within one day. The next time we need a camera we will not be looking to other suppliers but contact GeT Cameras immediately.

I was just surprised by the inhouse knowledge of get cameras about machine vision. Never expected this from a webshop. The image an built quality of the camera is also great. The camera feels and operates the same as our Basler cameras.

In the beginning I was sceptic because of the low prices, but support by email was great. They advise a lens and provided additional technical information. Unfortunately they don't offer a loan service, but I decided to try it. I had the cameras in house within 2 weeks and connection was easy. The SDK looks like the SDK from Basler so I felt directly comfortable with it. The camera and lens was a perfect match and now I'm able to read small DMC codes on large products with just a single camera.
